Further rainfall is forecast throughout today, however river levels are expected to begin falling later on today.

Areas most at risk include Wakefield Westgate, Darnley including Rufford Street, Westgate Retail Park and Thornes.

River levels have now started to fall following yesterday's heavy and persistent rainfall. Although wintery showers associated with Storm Darcy are expected throughout today, 07/02/2021, until midnight tonight, river levels are not expected to rise significantly. We are closely monitoring the situation. Please remain vigilant as catchments remain very wet. Please avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded. River levels are high but steady as a result of persistent and heavy rainfall. Consequently, flooding of property, roads and farmland is possible between this evening and tomorrow, 07/02/2021. Areas most at risk are properties along Rufford Street, Moorhouse Avenue, Alverthorpe Road, Henry Street, Elder Avenue and the Westgate at the Magdalene Chapel. Further rainfall is forecast into the evening, but is expected to peter out overnight. We expect river levels to remain high until tomorrow. River levels remain high but are now falling following persistent heavy rainfall due to Storm Ciara. Whilst further showers are forecast throughout today, 10/02/20, we do not expect these to cause significant impacts to river levels, which should continue to fall. Consequently we expect the risk of flooding to reduce throughout the day, and will review the continuing need for this warning once the river drops below levels of concern.

River levels have risen as a result of persistent heavy rainfall overnight and this morning, 09/02/20, due to Storm Ciara. A further heavy band of rain is causing a sharp river response and we may already be seeing flood impacts in the area. The risk of property flooding will continue through the afternoon, with properties around Rufford Street, Moorhouse Avenue and Alverthorpe Road, Henry Street at Alverthorpe Road, Elder Avenue, and Westgate at the Magdalene Chapel most at risk.
